New 2026 Subaru Impreza Redesign, Features, Dimensions  –  While it might be an unlikely candidate for any design awards, the Subaru Impreza is a practical all-wheel-drive hatchback with a generous slate of technology and safety features. The standard engine is a 2.0-liter boxer four that generates 152 horsepower, while the top-of-the-line RS model swaps in a 182-hp 2.5-liter. Neither is particularly quick, but the RS’s extra power makes it a little more fun on a curvy road. A continuously variable transmission is mandatory and makes us long for the manual that was offered in years past.

The Impreza’s interior is no-nonsense, with a large infotainment screen included on all but the base model. The Honda Civic is more engaging and available in a no-compromise hybrid version that’s more efficient and powerful than the Subie, while the Toyota Prius is thriftier, stylish, and offers all-wheel drive. Exterior and Interior

Subaru interiors are known for being pragmatic rather than posh, and that trend continues with the latest Impreza. Dual-zone climate control is standard for the entire model line, as are 60/40 split-folding rear seats. During our first drive, we found that the new Impreza’s cabin seemed quieter than the fifth-gen model’s. The interior looks like a natural progression from the design of the preceding generation, and we appreciated having hard buttons for the infotainment display rather than just touchscreen controls. There’s a nifty plastic step near the rear seats to help access the roof and secure cargo to vehicles equipped with roof rails.

The lowest variants of the Subaru Impreza are equipped with infotainment displays that measure 7.0 inches in size. The automotive manufacturer’s Sport and RS models come standard with a Starlink multimedia system as standard equipment. It is compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and it comes with a touchscreen display that measures 11.6 inches and features controls for the sound system, the heating and ventilation system, and many aspects of the car. Additionally, it is compatible with Apple CarPlay. Additionally, Subaru offers its Safety and Security Connect Services to cars that are outfitted with Starlink technologies. In addition to other convenient services like Remote Vehicle Locator, these services offer SOS Emergency Assistance and Stolen Vehicle Recovery Service. The Subaru Impreza provides its passengers with features such as an auxiliary input jack, a USB-C connection, and a USB-A port. These features are available regardless of the smartphone that the passenger is using. You may be assured that you are well-equipped to deal with any and all circumstances. Engine and Performance

The base and Sport trims are powered by a meager naturally aspirated 2.0-liter flat-four engine, which musters 152 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque. Despite its extra oomph over the base engine, the RS’s beefier boxer engine leaves us wishing Subaru had fitted it with a turbocharger. While it’s not the peppiest hatch sold today, the Impreza does have a chassis worthy of a stronger powertrain. A CVT is standard on all Imprezas as is torque vectoring, which improves upon the capable standard all-wheel-drive system. For an extra sprinkling of rally-racing sportiness, Subaru has equipped the Impreza with a version of the dual-pinion electric power steering rack found in the WRX, reducing effort at the helm, and stiffened the chassis by 10 percent compared to the previous model.

With the base engine, the Impreza gets EPA fuel-economy ratings of 27 mpg city and 34 mpg highway. RS-trim cars with the 2.5-liter engine get an estimated 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. The chassis tuning allows for spirited driving on canyon roads, and the larger 2.5-liter engine is a welcome improvement over the base 2.0-liter—though it’s still far from pulse-quickening.
