New 2026 Subaru Impreza Hatchback Redesign

New 2026 Subaru Impreza Hatchback Redesign, Pictures, MPG  –  While it might be an unlikely candidate for any design awards, the Subaru Impreza Hatchback is a practical all-wheel-drive hatchback with a generous slate of technology and safety features. The standard engine is a 2.0-liter boxer four that generates 152 horsepower, while the top-of-the-line RS model swaps in a 182-hp 2.5-liter. Neither is particularly quick, but the RS’s extra power makes it a little more fun on a curvy road.

A continuously variable transmission is mandatory and makes us long for the manual that was offered in years past. The Impreza Hatchback’s interior is no-nonsense, with a large infotainment screen included on all but the base model. The Honda Civic is more engaging and available in a no-compromise hybrid version that’s more efficient and powerful than the Subie, while the Toyota Prius is thriftier, stylish, and offers all-wheel drive. Subaru also offers the related Crosstrek, which is essentially an Impreza Hatchback with more ground clearance.  New 2026 Subaru Impreza Hatchback Redesign

Exterior and Interior

Subaru’s interiors are renowned for being functional rather than luxurious, and the most recent Impreza Hatchback is no exception. All models in the series are equipped with 60/40 split-folding rear seats and dual-zone temperature control. We discovered on our first drive that the cabin of the new Impreza Hatchback appeared to be quieter than that of the fifth-generation model. New 2026 Subaru Impreza Hatchback Interior

We liked that the infotainment display had physical buttons instead of only touchscreen controls, and the inside design seems like a logical step up from the previous version. To facilitate access to the roof and attach cargo to vehicles with roof rails, there is a handy plastic step located next to the rear seats. The hatchback has a vast 56 cubic foot load space when the back seats are folded.

New 2026 Subaru Impreza Hatchback Specs

A 7.0-inch infotainment screen is standard on base Impreza hatchbacks. The automaker’s Starlink multimedia system is standard on Sport and RS versions. It has an 11.6-inch touchscreen display with controls for the sound system, HVAC, and other car functions, and it is wirelessly compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. New 2026 Subaru Impreza Hatchback Redesign

Subaru also provides its Safety and Security Connect Services, including SOS Emergency Assistance and Stolen Vehicle Recovery Service, along with features like Remote Vehicle Locator, for cars that have Starlink installed. Regardless of the smartphone you own, the Impreza Hatchback offers its passengers a USB-C port, a USB-A port, and an auxiliary input connection. A 10-speaker Harmon Kardon sound system is also available, but it’s limited to the top-of-the-line RS model. New 2026 Subaru Impreza Hatchback Redesign

Engine and Performance

The base and Sport trims are powered by a meager naturally aspirated 2.0-liter flat-four engine, which musters 152 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque. A larger 2.5-liter four-cylinder boxer engine is exclusively available in the RS model, providing an output bump of 30 horsepower and 33 pound-feet of torque for a total output of 182 horses and 178 pound-feet. Despite its extra oomph over the base engine, the RS’s beefier boxer engine leaves us wishing Subaru had fitted it with a turbocharger. New 2026 Subaru Impreza Hatchback Engine

While it’s not the peppiest hatch sold today, the Impreza Hatchback does have a chassis worthy of a stronger powertrain. A CVT is standard on all Impreza Hatchbacks as is torque vectoring, which improves upon the capable standard all-wheel-drive system. For an extra sprinkling of rally-racing sportiness, Subaru has equipped the Impreza Hatchback with a version of the dual-pinion electric power steering rack found in the WRX, reducing effort at the helm, and stiffened the chassis by 10 percent compared to the previous model.

New 2026 Subaru Impreza Hatchback Fuel Economy

The Impreza Hatchback’s EPA fuel-economy ratings with the standard engine are 27 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway. The projected city and highway fuel economy of RS-trim vehicles with the 2.5-liter engine is 26 and 33 mpg, respectively. As part of our rigorous testing program, we evaluated the Impreza Hatchback RS on our 75 mph highway fuel-economy route. The vehicle achieved 37 mpg, 4 mpg better than its EPA rating.  New 2026 Subaru Impreza Hatchback Redesign

New 2026 Subaru Impreza Hatchback Safety Features

In addition to the aforementioned Safety and Security Connected Services available for models equipped with Starlink, Subaru has made its EyeSight Driver Assist Technology standard for all three Impreza Hatchback trim levels. Automatic emergency steering is included on models fitted with the optional blind-spot detection system, which is already packaged with lane-keeping assist and rear cross-traffic alert—all of which are standard on the RS model. For more information about the Impreza Hatchback’s crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features include:

Standard adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist
Available blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert
Available automatic emergency steering.  New 2026 Subaru Impreza Hatchback Redesign

New 2026 Subaru Impreza Hatchback Price and Release Date

The price of the 2026 Subaru Impreza Hatchback starts at $25,530 and goes up to $30,420 depending on the trim and options. Given our natural disposition toward sporty vehicles, plus the power of nostalgia, we were curious to see what the reborn Impreza Hatchback RS is capable of and wondered if it would be our preferred configuration.

The chassis tuning allows for spirited driving on canyon roads, and the larger 2.5-liter engine is a welcome improvement over the base 2.0-liter—though it’s still far from pulse-quickening. We recommend sticking with the base model since its value pricing and feature set best align with the Impreza Hatchback’s primary mission: to offer buyers frugal, practical all-wheel-drive transportation.  New 2026 Subaru Impreza Hatchback Redesign
